Install a software on Ubuntu with the Software Center

Ubuntu Software Center is a awesome way to manage softwares. Each application is tested and updated by Ubuntu or community. As for the secuiryt and stability, that is a ideal system as it ensures that each software contains no virus and that security vulnerabilities are fixed in all your softwares at once in each update.

For the next steps, it is useful to know your ubuntu version.

On Ubuntu 11.04

  1. Click on the Ubuntu menu in the top left corner.
  2. Type the word software center and click on Ubuntu Software Center.
  3. In the applications list, click on te application that you want to install and click on Install. You can also use the search bar to find an application easily.
  4. Type your administrator password to allow the installation of the software.
  5. The software in now installed, if you click on the Ubuntu menu and that you type the name of the software, it should appears. You can also drag and drop it in the left Ubuntu dock if you want to open this software in one click in the future.

            

On Ubuntu 10.04, Ubuntu 10.10

  1. Click on the Applications / Ubuntu Software Center menu.
  2. In the applications list, click on te application that you want to install and click on Install. You can also use the search bar to find an application easily.
  3. Type your administrator password to allow the installation of the software.
  4. The software in now installed, you can find it in the Application menu.
