Most of time drivers are distributed on a CD, with or inside a .exe executable file, which guide you through the installation and does everything for you. Most of time, this is the easier approach. However, using this method might also install a bunch of softwares and gadgets along with the driver that you might want or not. If you don't want the gadgets, go with the following method.

find a driver if you don't already have them because Windows will not always automatically find and download them.
On Windows 7, Windows Vista
- Right-click on the device and click Update Driver Software..
- If you want Windows to automatically find and download the driver, click Search automatically for updated driver software. If that doesn't work or if you have the driver, click Browse my computer for driver software and continue with next instructions.
- Click Browse.. to choose the folder in which the driver can be found and then click Next.
- At the end, if you still have a question or exclamation mark on that device in the device manager, the installation didn't work. That means the driver you have is not compatible, wether this driver is for another device or another Windows version.
On Windows XP
- Right-click on a device and click Update driver..
- Click Yes, this time only if you want Windows to try to find the software online, or No, not this time if are confident that you have the right driver and that you don't want to lose time, then click Next.
- If your driver is on a CD, click Install the software Automatically, otherwise click Install from a list of specific location and continue with next instructions.
- Click Browse.. to choose the folder in which the driver can be found and make sure that Include file location in the search and/or Search amovible media are checked, then click Next.
- At the end, if you still have a question or exclamation mark on that device in the device manager, the installation didn't work. That means the driver you have is not compatible, wether this driver is for another device or another Windows version.
