Hardware driver

A driver is a small program in charge to operate a computer hardware in a operating system like Windows.

It is not rare that we have to install a driver on Windows when connecting new hardware to a computer. This contrasts with Mac and Ubuntu in which this is less often necessary.

However, there are things such as USB sticks, external hard drives, USB mouse, USB keyboards and other devices that do not require driver installation because they are so basic that all systems have the necessary make them work.
