Check the status of your hard drive with Ubuntu
If your computer doesn't boot anymore, you can use the Ubuntu CD that let you boot ubuntu without installing it to your computer. That CD is available for free on Internet in a ISO file. See boot on a bootable CD.
On Ubuntu 11.04 and later
- Click on the Ubuntu menu on the top left corner.
- Type the word disk and click on Disk Utility.
- Click on your hard drive on the left panel.
- The hard drive status appears on the right. If you get something else than "Not supported" and "Disk is healthy", your hard drive has a problem. Not supported might appears for a minute until the real hard drive status appears.
